{"id":47,"date":"2019-11-01T08:13:34","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T08:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eliteservermanagement.com\/issues\/?p=47"},"modified":"2022-05-18T13:14:38","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T13:14:38","slug":"ftp-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eliteservermanagement.com\/issues\/ftp-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"FTP Error: 530 Login authentication failed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">FTP : File Transfer Protocol <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FTP clients : Filezilla<\/p>\n<p>FTP connection settings as<\/p>\n<p>Host : Domain name or server IP<br \/>\nPort: 21<br \/>\nProtocol : FTP or SFTP<br \/>\nEncryption : Plain FTP or FTPES(Explicit FTP over TLS) depends on server settings<br \/>\nLocation Type: Normal<br \/>\nUser : complete username<br \/>\nPassword : password<br \/>\nEnable the passive port range for Pure-FTPd in server Firewall (PassivePortRange 30000 65000 )<br \/>\nFTP Logs : \/var\/log\/messages ======================================================================== <strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Error: 421 Sorry, cleartext sessions are not accepted on this server <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The error reports because the FTP SSL encryption settings are incorrect while connection.<\/p>\n<p>Please use following settings into your FTP client as (Options in Filezilla)<\/p>\n<p>Main &gt;&gt; Service Configuration &gt;&gt; FTP Server Configuration TLS Encryption Support &gt;&gt; \u201coptional\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Settings:<br \/>\nHost: domain name or server Ip<br \/>\nPort : 21<br \/>\nServer Type : FTPES -FTP over explicit TLS\/SSL<br \/>\nEnable the passive port range for Pure-FTPd<br \/>\nFor that you need to modify FTP configuration file vim \/etc\/pure-ftpd.conf configuration file<br \/>\nEnable the passive port range as PassivePortRange 30000 65000 then Save the pure-ftpd.conf file and restart FTP service. Also enable the passive port range into server firewall<\/p>\n<p>========================================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Error: 530 Login authentication failed <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can receive this error even if you are using correct FTP login details.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Cause :<\/span> The ftp passwords and cpanel passwords are stored in separate locations and sometimes the ftp passwords wont get updated when you update cpanel passwords.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Resolution:<\/span> You can resolve this issue by following steps in WHM as<\/p>\n<p>1. Switch FTP from Pure-ftpd to Proftpd in WHM =&gt; WHM &gt; FTP Configuration and switch it back to Pure-ftpd.<\/p>\n<p>2. Synchronize FTP passwords in WHM =&gt; Main &gt;&gt; cPanel &gt;&gt; Synchronize FTP Passwords option in WHM.<\/p>\n<p>3. Restart FTP server using Main &gt;&gt; Restart Services &gt;&gt; FTP Server (ProFTPd\/PureFTPd) option.<\/p>\n<p>Please make sure that the local machine IP address isn\u2019t blocked in server firewall.<\/p>\n<p>(From shell access)<br \/>\nOr fire following commands on shell prompt as \/scripts\/ftpupdate \/etc\/init.d\/pure-ftp restart ========================================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Change the FTP user path in cPanel : <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>cPnel does not allow you to change the FTP path for main account or sub accounts, but you can change it from the FTP user configuration file.<\/p>\n<p>By default, the cPanel user has a file in \/etc\/proftpd (even if you use pure-ftp the location is same) \/etc\/proftpd contains a file for each of the accounts on the server as below<\/p>\n<p># cat \/etc\/proftpd\/user<\/p>\n<p>user:$1$vAYD1RiQ$U7pJmHJvT5dFL.kzoJ8f6\/:519:518::\/home\/user:\/bin\/ftpsh user_logs:$1$vAYD1RiQ$U7pJmHJvT5dFL.kzoJ8f6\/:519:518:user:\/home\/.domlogs\/user:\/bin\/ftpsh<\/p>\n<p>You can edit the file for the domain and change the home directory as user:$1$vAYD1RiQ$U7pJmHJvT5dFL.kzoJ8f6\/:519:518::\/home\/user\/myfiles:\/bin\/ftpsh<\/p>\n<p>Once you made changes, save the file and then restart your pure-ftpd service ========================================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Limit the FTP connections from the IP address? (pure-FTP) <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In case you need to restrict FTP connections from any IP, you can do that but the default the limit\u00a0is 8. It is not recommended to increase the limit of 8, for security reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Follow steps as<\/p>\n<p># Maximum number of sim clients with the same IP address MaxClientsPerIP 8<\/p>\n<p>1.Open pure-FTP configuration file using vim \/etc\/pure-ftpd.conf<br \/>\n<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">2. Search for the line \u201cMaxClientsPerIP\u201d and change the value<br \/>\n<\/span>3.
